Discover the Difference That Family-Inspired Home Care Makes

Home Care in Orange, CA

If your parents are anything like ours, they've poured their hearts into creating a better life for you and their community. Now that they're in their golden years, they deserve to relax and savor the fruits of their labor.

However, as our loved ones age, the need for extra support around the home becomes evident, whether it's preparing meals or managing medications. When they can no longer care for themselves as they once did, worries about their safety and well-being arise. It's natural to think about their quality of life and how you can give back to them while balancing your own responsibilities.

Most seniors -94%, according to Forbes- prefer to remain in their homes as they age. If the senior in your life wants to stay at home as they get older, what's the best way to make that happen? For many families, non-medical home care offers a compassionate and affordable solution. In-home care is quickly becoming the first choice for older seniors because it supports your family while allowing your loved one to age gracefully in the familiar, safe surroundings they're used to.

If you're committed to keeping your mom, dad, or senior relative safe and happy at home, working with a home care agency might be the best way to achieve that goal.

When is the Right Time to Consider Home Care in Orange, CA?

When it comes to maintaining good senior health, early intervention is often key. Unfortunately, many adults with senior parents are stretched too thin to notice signs that their mom or dad needs help around the house. Wondering whether you really need to consider home care for you, your parents, or your loved ones? Keep these warning signs in mind.

Consistent Forgetfulness

As men and women get older, it's perfectly natural for them to have some aspects of mental decline. Age-related memory loss doesn't affect everyone, but when it involves your loved one, it can be a lot to digest. When forgetfulness begins to impact your parents' quality of life, it's time to take action.

Commonly referred to as mild cognitive impairment (MCI), this forgetfulness often arises from reduced blood flow to the brain, a phenomenon frequently associated with aging. Other contributing factors can include typical neural lapses and a decline in hippocampal function, which is a crucial area of the brain responsible for memory. These changes can lead to frustrating side effects, such as

  • Missing or Forgetting Appointments and Outings
  • Misplaced Items Like Glasses, Car Keys, Cooking Utensils, Etc.
  • Getting People's Names Wrong, Such as Confusing a Granddaughter with a Daughter
  • Forgetting Conversation Topics
  • Struggling to Make a Point in a Conversation
How Does In-Home Care in Orange, CA Help with Forgetfulness?

Seniors showing any of these signs can greatly benefit from non-medical home care providers who can help them with their daily tasks. This support can include reminding them of scheduled appointments, preparing meals, light housekeeping, and assisting with reading and other essential activities. Professional caregivers can also incorporate healthy memory practices into your loved one's daily routine. Strategies may include social interaction, engaging in simple strategy games, maintaining a nutritious diet, and participating in light exercises like slow walks around the block.

Trouble Completing Daily Living Activities

As your parents or senior loved ones get older, they often have trouble completing dayto-day tasks that are fundamental to living a normal life. There are several activities of daily living, or ADLs, that senior citizens struggle with and include

  • Bathing or Showering
  • Getting Dressed
  • Going to the Bathroom
  • Eating Healthy Meals
  • Trouble Getting Around the Home
How Does Non-Medical Home Care Help with Seniors Struggling with ADLs?

A reliable caregiver from a trusted senior care agency in Orange, CA, can help make daily life much easier for your elder relative. If they have trouble putting on or tying their shoes, your caregiver is there to help them choose their shoes and put them on correctly.

If your senior citizen isn't eating healthy food, your caregiver can help create a nutritious meal plan and assist them in preparing the food they need for energy and daily activities. When searching for a home care agency, make sure they offer tailored care plans that address your loved one's needs, not someone who has similar issues.

  • Trouble with Finances and Traveling to Unfamiliar Places
  • Forgetting Significant Pieces of Information

Orange Country CA Sports Agent Who Alleges He Was Drugged at MGM Casino in Vegas Wins Significant Victory

The lawsuit against MGM was filed by Manley, a prominent Orange County California real estate developer and former sports agent who claims he was involuntarily drugged with ketamine while playing blackjack in the high-limit area of the MGM Grand in Las Vegas in December 2021.

The lawsuit also alleges he sustained injuries as his credit line was increased by millions of dollars while under the influence. (United States District Court, District of Nevada, Case No. 2:22-cv-01906-MMD-DJA. Third Amended Complaint.)

The case is finally heading to trial.

Now we are learning that Manley and his legal counsel have now won a significant victory.

United States District Court, District of Nevada Judge Miranda M. Du in Las Vegas has denied MGM's request for summary judgment dismissal of Manley's suit. A trial date will be set in the future. (Manley continues to offer a $1 million reward for truthful information that leads to an arrest and conviction of the person or persons who drugged him.)

Gambling911.com has obtained a copy of the Motions Hearing.

Evidence found in discovery of 11 (eleven) other cases of visitors who alleged they were drugged by MGM personnel at MGM properties: Page 17 starting on Line 11 through Page 18 Line 7.

MGM had initially claimed Manley failed to provide enough evidence showing he was drugged in their casino.

“MGM further objects to this request on the grounds that documents being sought are unproportional to the needs of this action and have no bearing on the parties’ respective claims and defenses, particularly since Plaintiff has failed to produce any evidence indicating that he was ‘drugged’ at MGM’s property on December 10, 2021.," per MGM's response back in 2024.

Manley has provided the court with a hair test demonstrating that he was drugged with Ketamine, a medication that is known for its rapid-acting antidepressant effects and for being used recreationally as a hallucinogenic drug.

MGM contends that the drug test itself does not pinpoint where Manley was exposed to the Ketamine.

Combining Ketamine with substances such a alcohol can lead to death.

For a decade, the Hilbert Museum of California Art has shared work from artists who help trace the history of the state and all that makes it special.

The museum’s founders, Mark and Janet Hilbert, seeded the Chapman University museum from their own expansive collection, and Mark Hilbert regularly treats patrons to tours.

Since opening in 2016, the museum has seen some 300,000 visitors who have viewed 119 exhibitions and shows, according to museum officials. Some 3,500 works have been displayed, from either the Hilbert collection or on loan to the museum, and 80% of the artists represented have been from California, officials said. The museum underwent an expansion in 2023 that tripled its size.

The museum in Old Towne Orange recently hosted a two-day celebration of its 10th anniversary.

Several new exhibits are now open, including one of the biggest shows featuring Disney animation that the Hilbert has yet to host, museum officials said. Disney and Hollywood are very much a part of California’s modern history, after all, and the Hilbert often features work from animators and industry artists, along with other leading California Scene artists.

The show features more than 50 original drawings and storyboards by the Danish-born artist Jorgen Klubien, who has been involved in several Disney and Pixar classics, including “The Little Mermaid,” The Lion King” and “Mulan,” among others.

The museum is also showcasing its first-ever show curated by Chapman University students. It’s an exhibition of California’s rock poster legacy.

Other new exhibits now on display touch California’s coast through the maritime prints of Phi Dike, The Oregon Trail through original ink drawings by Maynard Dixon and art and meditation through the combination of viewing stones and California landscape pieces.

“Behind the success of the Hilbert Museum is a group of loyal California artists and California art experts who spend many hours working with Mark and me to curate the specific shows and artwork we offer the public,” Mary Platt, the museum’s director, said in a statement. “While the task is a great honor, the size and scope of the 5,000-piece Hilbert Collection – spanning not just paintings but prints, lithographs, illustrations, mixed media, animation cells, movie memorabilia, ceramics, Native American pottery and weavings, ephemera and even vintage radios – can make choosing which works to ultimately showcase a challenge.”

So that is why, she said, the museum will have a “By Popular Demand” show later this year to share pieces that will be curated from visitor comments and requests over the last decade.

“Our visitors told us which pieces they wanted to see again to serve as the perfect encore to our first decade,” she said.

The Hilbert is planning an expanded lecture series this year, touching on everything from Route 66 to Emigdio Vasquez, a pioneer in Chicano art whose murals can be seen around Orange County. There is a 50-year retrospective of Vasquez’s work on display through May.

A Pacific Symphony Orchestra quartet will also appear.

Find out more at hilbertmuseum.org. The museum is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesdays through Sundays and is free to visit, though reservations are encouraged.

A total lunar eclipse will take place during the full moon on March 3.

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- If you live in Southern California, you might want to look up to the sky overnight.

Known as the worm moon, March's full moon will coincide with a total lunar eclipse, commonly called a blood moon, when the Moon takes on a striking reddish color!

Here's how you can watch the March 2026 blood moon lunar eclipse if you're in Los Angeles.

When can I see the blood moon in Los Angeles?

The total lunar eclipse will occur in the early morning hours of March 3, 2026, according to NASA.

Timeline of the blood moon in Los Angeles, provided by NASA:

Why is it called the blood moon?

A lunar eclipse occurs when Earth passes directly between the Sun and the Moon, casting a large shadow across the Moon's surface.

According to NASA, this alignment can only happen during a full moon.

During a total lunar eclipse, the Moon moves completely into Earth's shadow, causing it to appear red or orange in color.

NASA explains that during a total lunar eclipse, Earth blocks most of the Sun's light from reaching the Moon.

The remaining light that does reach the Moon is filtered through Earth's atmosphere, which scatters shorter wavelengths and allows red and orange tones to pass through.

The effect is often described as looking like all of Earth's sunrises and sunsets are projected onto the Moon -- creating the dramatic "blood moon" appearance.

How can you observe the lunar eclipse?

According to NASA, a lunar eclipse can be safely observed without any special equipment. All you need is a clear view of the Moon.

For the best experience, experts recommend heading to a dark location away from bright city lights. While it's not necessary, using binoculars or a telescope can enhance the details and make the eclipse even more dramatic.

Why is it called the worm moon?

The Old Farmer's Almanac, which began publishing full moon names in the 1930s, explains that March's full moon is called the worm moon because earthworms begin to reappear as the ground thaws at the end of winter.

NASA adds that some Native American tribes used this name to describe the worm casts -- small piles of soil -- that appear as the frozen ground begins to soften.

How often do we get a total lunar eclipse?

While we experience several eclipses every year here on Earth, we only see a total lunar eclipse or blood moon once every few years, according to NASA.

While total solar eclipses occur roughly every 18 months, their visibility is much more limited than that of total lunar eclipses, as they can be seen only from specific locations each time, according to NASA.

In contrast, total lunar eclipses are usually visible from much larger parts of the Earth, making them easier for more people to catch.

Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and San Diego counties were placed under an updated severe thunderstorm warning by the National Weather Service on Wednesday at 2:28 a.m. The warning is in effect until 3:30 a.m.

Residents should be prepared for wind gusts of up to 60 mph.

“At 2:26 a.m., a band of severe thunderstorms extended from Newport Beach to San Bernardino and was moving slowly southeast into southern Orange County and western Riverside County,” according to the NWS San Diego CA. “Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees.”

Locations impacted by the warning include Anaheim, Riverside, Irvine, San Bernardino, Fontana, Moreno Valley, Corona, Orange, Rialto, Mission Viejo, Tustin, Redlands, San Clemente, Lake Elsinore, Yucaipa, Laguna Beach, Newport Beach, Dana Point, northern Camp Pendleton and Hemet.

The NWS said, “For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building.”

Updates on road closures can be found on CalTrans’ website or mobile app or by calling 800-427-7623.

For “considerable or catastrophic” hazards, emergency alerts will be sent to all enabled mobile phones in the area. To monitor lesser risk, residents are advised to sign up for county alert systems and to monitor agencies’ social media. How to sign up for alerts in your area:

If you’re in an area at risk of flooding, sandbags can be one line of defense. County fire departments typically offer a limited supply of free sandbags for residents of their nearby communities. You should bring your own shovel to fill your bags, and be prepared to show proof of residency.

Sand and sandbags can also be purchased at many home improvement and hardware stores.

Here are links of locations that might have sandbags in your area:

Not sure how to fill your sandbags? Watch the how-to video, provided by the City of Seal Beach.

Lightning strikes the United States approximately 25 million times each year, mostly during the summer. Lightning claims the lives of about 20 people annually, according to the NWS. The risk of lightning-related incidents escalates as thunderstorms draw near, reaching its peak when the storm directly looms overhead. However, it gradually recedes as the tempest moves

To ensure your safety during a thunderstorm, keep these recommendations in mind:

Lightning safety plan:

Indoors safety measures:

Wait for the all-clear:

When indoor shelter isn’t available:

If you find yourself outdoors without access to indoor shelter during a thunderstorm, take these steps to maximize your safety:

In summary, when facing the threat of lightning, vigilance and preparedness are your best allies. By following these guidelines, you can significantly reduce the chances of lightning-related accidents and prioritize your safety.

When heavy rain sets in, the risk of flooding and hazardous driving conditions rises. Whether it’s prolonged rainfall or rapid runoff, being prepared is essential. Here are some valuable safety tips from the NWS to ensure you stay safe in heavy rain:

Beware of rapid water flow:

During heavy rain, avoid parking or walking near culverts or drainage ditches, where swift-moving water can pose a serious risk.

Maintain safe driving distances:

The two-second rule for following distance is your ally in heavy rain. Extend it to four seconds to ensure safe spacing in adverse conditions.

Slow down and stay cautious:

On wet roads, reducing your speed is crucial. Ease off the accelerator gradually and avoid abrupt braking to prevent skidding.

Choose your lane wisely:

Stick to the middle lanes on multi-lane roads to minimize the risk of hydroplaning, as water tends to accumulate in outer lanes.

Visibility matters:

Enhance your visibility in heavy rain by turning on your headlights. Watch out for vehicles in blind spots, as rain-smeared windows can obscure them.

Watch out for slippery roads:

The initial half-hour of rain is when roads are slickest due to a mixture of rain, grime, and oil. Exercise heightened caution during this period.

Keep a safe distance from large vehicles:

Large trucks and buses can reduce your visibility with tire spray. Avoid tailgating and pass with caution.

Mind your windshield wipers:

Heavy rain can overload the wiper blades. When visibility is so limited that the edges of the road or other vehicles cannot be seen at a safe distance, it is time to pull over and wait for the rain to ease up. It is best to stop at rest areas or other protected areas.

When stopping by the roadside is your only option, position your vehicle as far off the road as possible, ideally beyond guardrails. Keep your headlights on and activate emergency flashers to alert other drivers of your position.

In the face of heavy rain, these precautions can make a significant difference in ensuring your safety on the road. Remember to stay informed about weather conditions and heed guidance from local authorities for a secure journey.
