Veterans Home Care Funding in Atlanta, GA

For many of us in the United States, military service touches our lives, whether through family, friends, or our communities. Our veterans have sacrificed so much and genuinely deserve our heartfelt gratitude, compassion, and care. Sadly, many of these brave individuals feel isolated and face daily challenges with tasks most of us take for granted, like preparing meals, keeping up with household chores, or managing their own wellbeing.

As veterans grow older, it becomes more important to provide the support they need to remain independent at home. After years spent in service to our country, these individuals deserve dignity, comfort, and attentive care. By investing in the health of our senior veterans, we help them enjoy a higher quality of life and honor their commitment to us all.

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) recognizes these needs and provides veterans home care funding in Atlanta, GA, to assist servicepeople and their loved ones. What many families don't realize is that long-term care options - including in-home care - are included in programs like ameriCARE's Veteran CARE services.

What Benefits Are Available Through Veterans Home Care Funding in Atlanta, GA?

The VA offers valuable benefits that include coverage for home health aide and homemaker services to veterans who require help with daily living activities. Through collaboration with one of our care partners, we learned that, out of more than 8 million veterans in the VA healthcare system aged 65 and older, only about 150,000 are utilizing this support. This means fewer than 2 percent of eligible veterans are getting the care they've rightfully earned. In some cases, such as with "Aid and Attendance," surviving spouses of veterans may also be eligible for benefits.

ameriCARE is committed to linking veterans and seniors nationwide with compassionate, highly trained caregivers from their own communities. We're proud to say that our mission goes beyond care - in fact, we're happy to help guide veterans and their families through the complexities of the VA system, offering hands-on support during the entire approval process. Many of our franchise owners team members are veterans themselves, who are dedicated to ensuring you or your loved one receives reliable, personalized care at home.

Common Issues Veterans Face After Leaving the Military

Regardless of how long they served, many military veterans leave service with a litany of health issues - both mental and physical. Some of the most common problems that older veterans face after leaving the military include

1. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

Research from the National Center for PTSD reveals that as many as 23% of veterans will experience post-traumatic stress disorder during their lifetime. For some, symptoms may not surface until later years, often following retirement. Notably, the development or worsening of PTSD in older adults has been linked to an increased risk of dementia, suggesting a complex relationship between trauma and cognitive decline as veterans age.

2. Malnutrition

A recent study featured in the National Library of Medicine examined the prevalence of malnutrition among older veterans receiving home-based primary care. The researchers discovered that 15% of these individuals were classified as malnourished, highlighting a significant health concern within this population. Malnutrition in elderly veterans can lead to a range of complications, such as weakened immune response, slower recovery from illness, and increased risk of hospitalization. These issues underscore the need for veterans home care funding in Atlanta, GA that helps seniors with eating and nutrition challenges.

3. Long-Term Health Problems

Studies show that older veterans face a 25% higher likelihood of reporting multiple chronic health issues compared to their nonveteran peers. This trend underscores the unique health challenges veterans may encounter as they age, which often stem from service-related injuries, stress, and more.

In the shadowed corridors of Urbana-Champaign's project housing, a paradox was born. Dr. De'Anjelo J.L. Bradley's introspective novel, The Antithesis, is a raw and unfiltered chronicle of a life forged in the furnace of extreme adversity.

Blending lived experience with deep philosophical reflection, Bradley traces his journey from a child who learned to "fight before he could write" to a decorated Air Force firefighter, an international humanitarian, and a PhD scholar. The narrative explores the "crucibles of our darkest moments," revealing how systemic poverty and early struggle can become the very foundation for an indomitable spirit.

"The Antithesis" is more than a story of survival; it is a roadmap for transformation. Through the dual lenses of the "school of hard knocks" and the "hallowed halls of academia," Bradley challenges societal perceptions of destiny and potential. It is a call to action for anyone weighed down by their past, proving that while we cannot choose our beginnings, we possess the ultimate power to define our end.

"The Antithesis" is a 126-page hardback with a retail price of $27.00 (eBook $22.00). The ISBN is 979-8-89649-095-1. Published by Dorrance Publishing Co., Inc. of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Kemp Signs $1.2B Rebates Into Law, Briefly Halts GA Gas Tax

ATLANTA, GA — Gov. Brian Kemp on Friday signed two bills to return $1.2 billion to taxpayers and suspend Georgia's gas tax for 60 days.

Members of the Georgia General Assembly joined Kemp as he signed house bills 1000 and 1199 into law.

"Today's suspension of the state gas tax enabled by House Bill 1199 will save hardworking Georgians and the truckers who keep our state moving nearly $400 million over the next 60 days," Georgia House Speaker Jon Burns said in a news release.

"Whether it's the immediate relief for millions of businesses, drivers, and citizens in House Bill 1199, the income tax rebates enabled by House Bill 1000 or the property tax relief grants in the amended 2026 budget, here in Georgia, we aren't just talking about addressing affordability, we're delivering results."

The signage comes a day after the Georgia Senate fully approved the amended HB 1199 and merely days after the complete passage of HB 1000. The latter will send up to $500 to 2024 and 2025 tax filers.

RELATED:

State officials have not released a timeline for sending the tax returns, but the Georgia Department of Revenue told Patch in mid-March the refunds were expected to be allocated as in previous years. Preparations were underway at the time, the DOR said.

Kemp first announced the surplus rebates in his final State of the State address in January. He also revealed plans to slash the income tax rate to 4.99 percent.

This will be his fourth time cutting taxes and sending tax rebates to Georgia residents. As in the past, single filers will receive $250, heads of household will receive $375 and married couples filing jointly will receive $500.

Previously, to receive the rebates, taxpayers would have had to file returns for the prior years. Refunds were allocated based on individual tax form instructions, either by direct deposit or mailed check.

HB 1199, in addition to aligning Georgia's tax code with federal law, could save drivers money at the gas pumps for two months.

The current excise tax is 33.3 cents per gallon and 37.3 cents per gallon of diesel. The average price was $3.79 for regular gas and $5.25 for diesel Friday, according to AAA.

Kemp's office said the change in gas prices should begin in a matter of days or weeks once retailers receive new fuel shipments.

ATLANTA — Severe Weather Team 2 Meteorologist Ashley Kramlich says a strong line of severe storms will be moving in overnight.

The threat of severe weather moves in after midnight through 8 a.m. Monday morning.

Get the latest timing on the line of severe storms, LIVE on Channel 2 Action News at 5 p.m.

Along the leading edge of the line, 70 mph+ damaging winds, spin-up tornadoes and some isolated large hail are possible.

Kramlich says temperatures will drop dramatically behind the front, with temperatures in the 30s by Monday afternoon.

[INTERACTIVE: ]

A freeze warning has been issued for Monday night at 11 p.m. until Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. with temperatures dropping into the 20s Tuesday morning.

SEVERE WEATHER SAFETY

March and April are the peak severe weather season for north Georgia, so it’s important to have a severe weather safety plan.

First, make sure you have multiple ways to get tornado watch or tornado warning alerts. Download the free WSB-TV Weather App for alerts sent straight to your phone when a tornado watch or tornado warning is issued.

Severe Weather Team 2 will come on the air immediately when a tornado warning is issued and stay on the air until the threat is over.

Know your county and be able to identify it on a map. Weather warnings include county names, and our maps have county outlines. Severe Weather Team 2 will get hyper-local tracking any tornadoes, but knowing counties helps.

Familiarize yourself with where your county is, but also make sure you know the counties that surround yours as well.

If a tornado warning is issued, know the safest place to be.

Move to an interior room on the lowest level of your home such as basement, closet or bathroom. Stay away from windows and exterior walls. If you are in a mobile home or outside, get to the closest shelter and protect yourself from debris.

If a shelter isn’t available, stay in a low-lying area such as a ditch. But do not get under an overpass or bridge.

ATL Airport Faces Long Waits Amid Federal Shutdown, Severe Storms

ATLANTA, GA — People traveling through the Atlanta airport Monday were faced with long wait times at the security checkpoints due to a partial federal government shutdown and lingering impacts from severe storms, officials said.

This comes as portions of Georgia are at a Level 2 slight risk for more severe storms Monday, when a brief tornado and 60 mph wind gusts are possible from 6 p.m. Monday to 1 a.m. Tuesday.

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, in an 8:15 a.m. update, said staff was working "through residual impacts from Friday's ground stops and ongoing staff constraints."

The limited staff at Hartsfield is due to the partial government shutdown, which is now in its 24th day.

According to the White House on Monday, airports nationwide were feeling the effects of the shutdown as employees with the Transportation Security Administration continue to work without pay for the third time in six months.

The shutdown is due to a stalemate over funding for the Department of Homeland Security, specifically for the Office of Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

“(President Donald) Trump is not handling this the best way possible, but leave the TSA workers out of it," Atlanta resident Trey Mon Bivins told WANF-TV.

Aside from staffing problems, Hartsfield-Jackson officials also cited ground stops initiated during Friday's severe storm pattern, which is forecast to continue Monday, for long wait times.

As of around 1:30 p.m. Monday, the fluctuating wait time for the main domestic checkpoint was 21 minutes. Wait times at the north and lower north checkpoints were 25 and 24 minutes, respectively.

Guests were waiting for 2 minutes in the pre-check line.

Travelers flying internationally had a 5-minute wait at the main checkpoint.

With more severe storms forecast for Monday evening, it was not immediately clear if travel conditions will worsen.

The National Weather Service's Peachtree City office predicted quarter-size hail and up to 60 mph wind gusts in western Georgia. A spin-up tornado may also be on the horizon.

The storms could continue at least through Thursday night before returning Sunday.

Here is the 's early Monday afternoon forecast for metro Atlanta:
