Discover the Difference That Family-Inspired Home Care Makes

Home Care in Seminole, FL

If your parents are anything like ours, they've poured their hearts into creating a better life for you and their community. Now that they're in their golden years, they deserve to relax and savor the fruits of their labor.

However, as our loved ones age, the need for extra support around the home becomes evident, whether it's preparing meals or managing medications. When they can no longer care for themselves as they once did, worries about their safety and well-being arise. It's natural to think about their quality of life and how you can give back to them while balancing your own responsibilities.

Most seniors -94%, according to Forbes- prefer to remain in their homes as they age. If the senior in your life wants to stay at home as they get older, what's the best way to make that happen? For many families, non-medical home care offers a compassionate and affordable solution. In-home care is quickly becoming the first choice for older seniors because it supports your family while allowing your loved one to age gracefully in the familiar, safe surroundings they're used to.

If you're committed to keeping your mom, dad, or senior relative safe and happy at home, working with a home care agency might be the best way to achieve that goal.

When is the Right Time to Consider Home Care in Seminole, FL?

When it comes to maintaining good senior health, early intervention is often key. Unfortunately, many adults with senior parents are stretched too thin to notice signs that their mom or dad needs help around the house. Wondering whether you really need to consider home care for you, your parents, or your loved ones? Keep these warning signs in mind.

Consistent Forgetfulness

As men and women get older, it's perfectly natural for them to have some aspects of mental decline. Age-related memory loss doesn't affect everyone, but when it involves your loved one, it can be a lot to digest. When forgetfulness begins to impact your parents' quality of life, it's time to take action.

Commonly referred to as mild cognitive impairment (MCI), this forgetfulness often arises from reduced blood flow to the brain, a phenomenon frequently associated with aging. Other contributing factors can include typical neural lapses and a decline in hippocampal function, which is a crucial area of the brain responsible for memory. These changes can lead to frustrating side effects, such as

  • Missing or Forgetting Appointments and Outings
  • Misplaced Items Like Glasses, Car Keys, Cooking Utensils, Etc.
  • Getting People's Names Wrong, Such as Confusing a Granddaughter with a Daughter
  • Forgetting Conversation Topics
  • Struggling to Make a Point in a Conversation
How Does In-Home Care in Seminole, FL Help with Forgetfulness?

Seniors showing any of these signs can greatly benefit from non-medical home care providers who can help them with their daily tasks. This support can include reminding them of scheduled appointments, preparing meals, light housekeeping, and assisting with reading and other essential activities. Professional caregivers can also incorporate healthy memory practices into your loved one's daily routine. Strategies may include social interaction, engaging in simple strategy games, maintaining a nutritious diet, and participating in light exercises like slow walks around the block.

Trouble Completing Daily Living Activities

As your parents or senior loved ones get older, they often have trouble completing dayto-day tasks that are fundamental to living a normal life. There are several activities of daily living, or ADLs, that senior citizens struggle with and include

  • Bathing or Showering
  • Getting Dressed
  • Going to the Bathroom
  • Eating Healthy Meals
  • Trouble Getting Around the Home
How Does Non-Medical Home Care Help with Seniors Struggling with ADLs?

A reliable caregiver from a trusted senior care agency in Seminole, FL, can help make daily life much easier for your elder relative. If they have trouble putting on or tying their shoes, your caregiver is there to help them choose their shoes and put them on correctly.

If your senior citizen isn't eating healthy food, your caregiver can help create a nutritious meal plan and assist them in preparing the food they need for energy and daily activities. When searching for a home care agency, make sure they offer tailored care plans that address your loved one's needs, not someone who has similar issues.

Signs of Dementia

  • More Noticeable and Predominant Memory Impairment
  • Trouble with Finances and Traveling to Unfamiliar Places
  • Forgetting Significant Pieces of Information
How Does Senior In-Home Care Help Older Adults with Dementia?

Sanford, Florida — Deputies in Seminole County, Florida warn of scam messages seeking bank details.

According to the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office, residents should be cautious of phone calls, text messages, or emails claiming to come from banks or financial institutions that request sensitive personal or financial information.

Authorities said scammers often create a sense of urgency, pressuring victims to act quickly before they have time to verify the request. These messages may claim there is suspicious activity on a bank account or that immediate action is required to prevent financial loss.

Investigators say victims are sometimes asked to provide account numbers, passwords, or verification codes. In other cases, scammers request payment through gift cards or cryptocurrency, methods that are difficult to trace and recover once sent.

The sheriff’s office advised residents to contact their bank or financial institution directly using a verified phone number if they receive suspicious messages or calls. Officials emphasized that legitimate banks typically do not request sensitive financial information through unsolicited messages.

Law enforcement officials also warned that scammers frequently impersonate trusted institutions to gain credibility, including banks, government agencies, or well-known companies.

Residents who believe they may have received a scam message or shared financial information are encouraged to report the incident to local authorities and their financial institution as soon as possible.

The warning comes as law enforcement agencies across the country continue to report an increase in impersonation and financial scams, particularly those targeting individuals through mobile phones and email.

Young adults, students, and commuters who rely heavily on mobile banking and text alerts may be especially vulnerable to quick-response scam tactics.

Ron DeSantis raises questions about Kalshi crowding Seminole Tribe gambling rights

Where do prediction markets stop and where does gambling begin?

That’s a question Gov. suggests is relevant for state-level policymakers, as he named one particular market that he believes could conflict with the Seminole Gaming Compact, which gives the Tribe exclusive sports betting rights in the state.

“This is something (that) really within the last year has really become a big deal,” DeSantis said on CNBC’s “Squawk Box.”

“In Florida, we kind of have a unique relationship with the Seminole Tribe of Florida. There was things done long before I was Governor to give them exclusive rights over gaming. They also have the exclusive rights over sports betting. And so the question is: Is something like Kalshi, is that clashing with the laws of the state of Florida? Or is it separate? It’s more of a prediction (market). So we’re kind of trying to get our mind around that.”

Other states have, to use the parlance, tried to get their minds around it also with unsatisfactory results.

As ESPN reported last year, Kalshi has rebutted similar claims in other states by successfully arguing that it is a financial exchange and not a sportsbook, thus meaningfully different from the Hard Rock betting app the Tribe holds the franchise on.

“If we are gambling, then I think you’re basically calling the entire financial market gambling,” said , Kalshi’s CEO.

Kalshi’s futures contracts are regulated by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. The company says “prediction markets provide accurate, real-time information on the likelihood of events, making humanity more informed about the future.”

“As the first regulated exchange for events, Kalshi is credited with legalizing and establishing prediction markets as a financial asset class,” the company has said.

BLACKSBURG, Va. – Florida State's Martin Somerville is used to playing with the basketball in his hands at the most crucial times in important games.

He's earned the trust of his coaches and teammates throughout his career and that trust has come to the forefront during his first season as a Seminole.

Somerville enters Saturday's game against Virginia Tech with a 2:1 assist:turnover ratio in the first 24 games of his Florida State career. He has played well since ACC play began against North Carolina in late December. Somerville has played especially well in the last two games with nine assists against zero turnovers and 55 minutes played against Notre Dame (six assists, zero turnovers, 31 minutes played) and Virginia (three assists and zero turnovers in 24 minutes played). Somerville has 23 assists and only four turnovers (5.8:1 A:TO ratio) in the last eight games since a zero turnover performance in 21 minutes of playing time against Syracuse.

Somerville and his Seminole teammates travel to play the Hokies on Saturday with the tip coming at 2:00 p.m. on the ACC Network. Doug Sherman and Scott Williams have the television call.

Jeff Culhane and Jacob Ridenhour have the call live on the Seminole Sports Network and on Facebook Live on the Florida State Men's Basketball Facebook page. Check out their Courtside Cam Broadcast on the FSU MBB Facebook and X pages, the Seminoles YouTube Channel, and on the Seminoles Unconquered app.

"My goal when I have the basketball in my hands is to make the right play," said Somerville. "Our coaching staff emphasizes making the right play. I feel that I have grown up in the sport of basketball as a strong ball handler and as a playmaker."

In helping lead the Seminoles to four wins in their last six games entering Saturday's game against Virginia Tech, Somerville has continuously made the right plays.

Beginning with Florida State's victory over Miami, Somerville has totaled only four turnovers in those six games and 165 minutes. He has totaled 21 assists, including his season-high of 6 assists against Notre Dame. In Florida State's victory over the Fighting Irish, Somerville totaled a clean statistic sheet with six assists, zero turnovers, and seven points in a season-high 31 minutes played.

Against Notre Dame, Somerville handled the ball more than usual with starting point guard Rob McCray V in foul trouble. His six assists and zero turnover performance marked the third time in his career that he had totaled at least six assists and zero turnovers in a single game.

"Martin has had a great impact on our team," said head coach Luke Loucks. "His transition to the ACC level has been seamless. The most important quality Martin brings to our team is his leadership. He's a coach on the floor; he's got a way about him because he is a vocal leader, and he's not afraid to hold his teammates accountable. His teammates gravitate towards him and that's one of the signs of a good leader."

Not only is Somerville a most important Seminole with the basketball in his hands, but he's an incredibly multi-talented and versatile player.

Somerville is one of Florida State's defensive leaders with 37 steals and one of the team's top shooters with a team-leading 48 3-point field goals made. He's tied for 11th in the ACC in steals and in the top 15 for 3-point field goals made, while averaging 8.4 points scored per game.

"I'm learning how to defend with a purpose, communicate well with my teammates, being able to drive and find guys, and mostly finding a way to win basketball games. I hope to take even more steps to becoming a better player in the coming games."

Somerville has played very well with the basketball in his hands during the first two seasons and 56 games of his career. He had an assist:turnover ratio of better than 2.4:1 during his only season at UMass Lowell and has a ratio of nearly 2:1 in his first season at Florida State.

Somerville is protecting the basketball even better in ACC play with an assist:turnover ratio of 4:1 (28 assists against only four turnovers) in the first 11 ACC games of his career.

As proud as he is of his success distributing the ball this season, he is as proud of his progress of becoming an outstanding defender.

"As a team the more steals we get on defense, the more possessions we get on offense," said Somerville. "Coach Loucks gives us the freedom to be aggressive on defense. Many steals are based off effort. Others are because I feel I have quick hands, and I am active on defense."

Somerville's quick hands on defense have allowed him to earn 84 steals in the first 56 games of his collegiate career (1.5 spg). At his current pace, he should reach the 100 steals plateau by the end of his sophomore season.

His impact is also felt with his success from the 3-point line.

Somerville has made 123 career-3-point shots in his first 56 games on the college level including 48 this season. He made his Florida State high of five 3-point field goals and scored his Seminole career-high of 23 points against Jacksonville and made four shots from distance and scored 18 points on the road in ACC play at Syracuse.

"Martin has many qualities on the basketball court that you can't teach," said Loucks. "His 3-point shooting ability, and his improvement on defense has helped us improve as a team. He can play on-ball. He can play off-ball. Martin brings a lot of things to the table. He's a guy who can knock down shots from anywhere on the floor and can create instant offense which is huge for us."
