Former Southern Miss player Mo Arnold is among 20 men who have been charged in a college basketball point shaving scheme, according to indictments unsealed on Jan. 15.
Arnold, who is named as Arlando Arnold, was recruited to the scheme in February 2024, according to the indictment.
He agreed to take part in fixing two games, according to the indictment, along with two of his teammates, who were not named in the indictment but are known to the grand jury. The games were against South Alabama on Feb. 28, 2024, and Louisiana on March 1, 2024.
Arnold was unable to fix the game against South Alabama, but did so successfully against Louisiana, according to the indictment. Arnold was given "tens of thousands of dollars" as payment for him and his teammates, according to the indictment.

"This news is disappointing to everyone associated with Southern Miss Athletics.
"Integrity of the game is important to anyone who loves college sports, and the University stands ready to assist in making sure incidents like these are removed from the competitive space in intercollegiate athletics."
Specific charges for Arnold were not announced. Charges listed in the indictment for the 20 included bribery, wire fraud and conspiracy. The fraud charges carry a maximum sentence of up to 20 years. The bribery charges have a maximum sentence of five years.
Arnold's role in the scheme is described as underperforming in the first half of games so that bets of the opposing teams covering halftime spreads would win.
South Alabama was favored by about 1.5 points against USM in the first half. According to the indictment, wagers of at least $275,000 were placed in favor of South Alabama covering that spread. The game was also included as a leg in multi-game parlays that included bets on other games that had been fixed in the scheme.
Although Arnold scored no points in the first half, the bets were unsuccessful, as USM and South Alabama finished the first half tied. The Golden Eagles went on to lose 73-70.
The indictment claims Arnold agreed to fix the Louisiana game to make up for his inability to do so against South Alabama. Both of the unnamed players agreed as well, with one even agreeing to sit out the game.
The total of the wagers placed at various sportsbooks was about at least $161,000 for Louisiana to cover the first-half spread of about 5 points. The Golden Eagles trailed 39-23 at halftime, and the fixers won the bets. USM and Louisiana scored the same amount of points in the second half, and the Golden Eagles lost 77-61.
Against South Alabama, Arnold played 20 minutes off the bench. He was 1-for-3 from the field for two points with six rebounds. In the Louisiana game, Arnold played 34 minutes as a starter, and he was 3-for-8 from the field, scoring seven points. He also had five rebounds, three assists and three turnovers.
Arnold graduated in the spring of 2024, but continued to try to recruit others to join the scheme, according to the indictment. He recruited Carlos Hart at the University of New Orleans, another defendant, in March 2024 and worked with one of the fixers, Jalen Hill, to try to recruit three USM players in December 2024, according to the indictment.
In the 2023-34 season, Arnold played in 32 games with 27 starts. He averaged 28.8 minutes, 6.2 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game while shooting 35.9% from the field and 26.7% from three.
Arnold began his NCAA career at Jacksonville, where he played from 2019-21. He transferred to USM ahead of the 2021-22 season. He is from Picayune, Mississippi, and went to Picayune High School.
In a press conference, David Metcalf, the United States attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, said that the investigation is ongoing.
