The NCAA Tournament has arrived in St. Louis, and for the Missouri Tigers, it’s about as close to home as March Madness gets.
The Tigers wrapped up their final practice Thursday at Enterprise Center, just over two hours from Columbia. The session was light and loose, more of a shootaround as players got up shots and settled in ahead of game day.
That relaxed atmosphere is a contrast from the last time Missouri played on this court.
Back on Dec. 22, the Tigers were routed by Illinois in St. Louis, a loss that helped shape the direction of their season.
Now, Missouri is back with a chance to rewrite that memory.
"That was a really bad loss," guard Mark Mitchell said. "You can choose to go either one of two ways. Either go up, or get down and sulk. We got back from Christmas break, took some time off away from each other and the coaches and everything. We reevaluated what we wanted in the season. We knew we were going to come out and attack the second part of the year. We did that."
The Tigers enter the NCAA Tournament looking to snap a three-game losing streak. Before that skid, Missouri had been playing some of its best basketball of the season. Being close to home could provide a boost as they try to regain that form.
"We'll see what it looks like, what it sounds like, but I'm excited about the opportunity," Tigers head coach Dennis Gates said. "Our guys are excited about being a participant in this tournament and our staff are excited as well."
Missouri will face Miami in the first round, a matchup with some history.
The two programs last met in the NCAA Tournament in 2002, when the Tigers won in the opening round on their way to an Elite Eight appearance.
This year’s game also marks a rare moment for Missouri in St. Louis during March Madness.
It’s only the second time the Tigers have played an NCAA Tournament game in the city. The last came in 1982, when Missouri lost to Houston in the Sweet 16.

PREVIOUS STORY: A Weather Impact Alert is in place for Friday night into early Saturday as a line of strong to severe thunderstorms is expected to move through the St. Louis region.
Storms are expected to arrive overnight. While not everyone will see severe weather, a few storms could become impactful late Friday evening into the early morning hours.
The primary concern is damaging wind, though a brief tornado cannot be ruled out. This is not expected to be a widespread or prolonged severe weather outbreak in the St. Louis area, but it is a setup that deserves attention before heading to bed.

6:15 a.m. Saturday: The Tornado Warning for Perry County, Missouri, and Jackson County, Illinois, has been canceled, and the Severe Thunderstorm Watches for the St. Louis region have expired as the strong storms move out of our coverage area.
5:10 a.m. Saturday: A Tornado Warning has been issued for Perry County, Missouri, and Jackson County, Illinois, until 6:30 a.m., with a radar-indicated tornado near Perryville. If you're in the path of the storm, go to your safe space now.
5 a.m. Saturday: Salem, Illinois, Department of Emergency Management posted on Facebook stating they had winds around 40 to 50 mph, heavy rain and lightning.
The city had multiple trees and large limbs down across roadways, and one house was hit with minor damage.
Public work crews were called in to clear the roadways.
4:15 a.m. Saturday: A Flash Flood Warning is in effect until 9 a.m. Saturday for Washington, Iron, Crawford and Reynolds counties.
Do not drive into flooded roads. If you are in a low-lying area, move to higher ground.

2:10 a.m. Saturday: Steady rain and lightning continue to move through the St. Louis area. Weather Impact meteorologists don't expect storms to become severe, but they will monitor conditions throughout the night and provide updates if things intensify.
1:45 a.m. Saturday: Steady rain, small hail and lightning are moving through the St. Louis region, but storms remain below severe limits.
12:30 a.m. Saturday: Severe Thunderstorm Watches remain in place until 6 a.m.; however, most of the storms are starting to fade and weaken. At this time, there are no active severe storms in the St. Louis region.
11:30 p.m. Friday: Damage reports are coming in from mid-Missouri as storms move east toward the St. Louis area.
According to the National Weather Service, reports include downed trees, a utility pole down in a roadway and wind gusts up to 68 mph in Boone County, Missouri.

An out-of-state resident carrying the measles virus traveled through the airport on Feb. 7 between 5-7 p.m. Anyone potentially exposed should watch for symptoms.
ST. LOUIS — A person carrying the measles virus traveled through St. Louis Lambert International Airport and a Metro East church earlier this month, prompting health officials to warn anyone who might have been exposed.
The out-of-state resident landed in St. Louis after a domestic flight on Feb. 7 and traveled through the airport between 5-7 p.m. The person was in Terminal 2, at baggage claim, and rode parking shuttle no. 3 to the parking area.
Passengers potentially exposed during the flight were being notified directly.
The Illinois Department of Public Health said a possible exposure also occurred at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Collinsville on Feb. 8 between 8 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. IDPH said the person lives in the Metro East and recently returned from traveling out of state.
State and local health officials warned anyone who may have been exposed to watch for symptoms for 21 days from exposure. Anyone who begins to show symptoms should isolate and contact their health care provider.
Symptoms typically appear one to two weeks after exposure and start with fever, cough, runny nose, and red and watery eyes. Two to three days after symptoms begin, white spots may appear in the mouth, and three to five days after first symptoms, a rash of flat red spots may appear at the hairline and then spread downward toward the neck, torso, arms legs and feet.
The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services said measles is highly contagious, and an infected person can spread the virus to nine out of 10 people who are unvaccinated or don't have natural immunity.
Officials noted measles can be especially dangerous for pregnant women and their unborn babies and for children too young to be vaccinated.
The St. Louis County Department of Public Health said the measles-mumps-rubella vaccine, or MMR, can provide 97% protection, and leads to less severe symptoms for the small number of people who may still contract the virus.
“Measles is highly contagious, but it is also preventable,” said St. Louis County Public Health Director Dr. Kanika Cunningham. “Through close coordination with our state and federal partners, we are working quickly to identify potential exposures, assist in communication efforts and protect our community. Vaccination remains our most effective tool to prevent measles and its serious complications.”
A spokesperson for St. Louis Lambert International Airport declined a request for comment.

Clergy members will offer drive-thru prayers and ashes, along with complimentary cross keepsakes and vehicle air fresheners on Wednesday.
The drive-thru Ash Wednesday experience is open to the public. Participants do not need to belong to the church, and no registration is necessary.
The event will be held from 7 to 8 a.m., 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 2 to 3 p.m. in the church's parking lot, located at 1151 Tom Finnever Ave. in O'Fallon, Missouri.
"Ash & Dash" will take place at Manchester United Methodist Church throughout the day.
The event is open to the public, and clergy members will be on hand to offer ashes, pray with the occupants and offer a free keepsake.
Guests can go to the church between 7 to 9 a.m., 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4 to 6 p.m. in the Manchester Athletic Association parking lot at 14380 Manchester Road.
