If your parents are anything like ours, they've poured their hearts into creating a better life for you and their community. Now that they're in their golden years, they deserve to relax and savor the fruits of their labor.
However, as our loved ones age, the need for extra support around the home becomes evident, whether it's preparing meals or managing medications. When they can no longer care for themselves as they once did, worries about their safety and well-being arise. It's natural to think about their quality of life and how you can give back to them while balancing your own responsibilities.
Most seniors -94%, according to Forbes- prefer to remain in their homes as they age. If the senior in your life wants to stay at home as they get older, what's the best way to make that happen? For many families, non-medical home care offers a compassionate and affordable solution. In-home care is quickly becoming the first choice for older seniors because it supports your family while allowing your loved one to age gracefully in the familiar, safe surroundings they're used to.
If you're committed to keeping your mom, dad, or senior relative safe and happy at home, working with a home care agency might be the best way to achieve that goal.
When it comes to maintaining good senior health, early intervention is often key. Unfortunately, many adults with senior parents are stretched too thin to notice signs that their mom or dad needs help around the house. Wondering whether you really need to consider home care for you, your parents, or your loved ones? Keep these warning signs in mind.
As men and women get older, it's perfectly natural for them to have some aspects of mental decline. Age-related memory loss doesn't affect everyone, but when it involves your loved one, it can be a lot to digest. When forgetfulness begins to impact your parents' quality of life, it's time to take action.
Commonly referred to as mild cognitive impairment (MCI), this forgetfulness often arises from reduced blood flow to the brain, a phenomenon frequently associated with aging. Other contributing factors can include typical neural lapses and a decline in hippocampal function, which is a crucial area of the brain responsible for memory. These changes can lead to frustrating side effects, such as
Seniors showing any of these signs can greatly benefit from non-medical home care providers who can help them with their daily tasks. This support can include reminding them of scheduled appointments, preparing meals, light housekeeping, and assisting with reading and other essential activities. Professional caregivers can also incorporate healthy memory practices into your loved one's daily routine. Strategies may include social interaction, engaging in simple strategy games, maintaining a nutritious diet, and participating in light exercises like slow walks around the block.
As your parents or senior loved ones get older, they often have trouble completing dayto-day tasks that are fundamental to living a normal life. There are several activities of daily living, or ADLs, that senior citizens struggle with and include
A reliable caregiver from a trusted senior care agency in Azle, TX, can help make daily life much easier for your elder relative. If they have trouble putting on or tying their shoes, your caregiver is there to help them choose their shoes and put them on correctly.
If your senior citizen isn't eating healthy food, your caregiver can help create a nutritious meal plan and assist them in preparing the food they need for energy and daily activities. When searching for a home care agency, make sure they offer tailored care plans that address your loved one's needs, not someone who has similar issues.
If you notice that your loved one can't keep themselves clean and groomed, it could be a sign that their health is on the decline. It could also be a red flag that your senior may be experiencing the early stages of dementia. Other signs include:
The best non-medical caregivers are trained to attend to your loved one's needs and quality of life as they move through the Functional Assessment Staging test of Alzheimer's Disease, also known as the FAST Scale. If you believe your parent or relative might be in the early stages of dementia, it's absolutely critical to work with a home care business like ameriCARE that specializes in dementia care.
There's a reason why almost 12 million people in the United States rely on some type of non-medical home care. Giving the older adult in your life the gift of in-home care can be a hugely positive decision on multiple levels. It not only gives them access to high-quality care in a place where they feel comfortable - it gives them the independence they crave and have earned over their lifetime.

Great in-home caregivers support your loved one's independence while providing the necessary assistance to ensure their safety and well-being. When you choose an agency that creates tailored care plans, your loved one can continue to live their lives on their terms, making choices about their daily activities and routines with the support of caregivers.

Look for a company that offers a robust range of senior care services and provides custom care plans that meet your senior's unique needs.
Inquire about the agency's caregiver recruitment process, including background checks, screening procedures, and ongoing training.

For more than 30 years, a North Texas homebuilder has constructed houses across the region, hundreds of them. Now, he's trying something new.
"I've seen a lot of single mothers and widows that live in mobile homes, and they're treated like second-class citizens. They should have the ability to have a nice place to live... and a nice community," he said.
On six and a half acres in Azle, he is constructing 42 compact homes in a community called Bit O'Heaven, each designed to be low-maintenance but long-lasting.
"Money is kind of secondary in this situation. I'm not here for that. I'm here to create a place for people to live," he said.
Each home will rent for a price intentionally set to be affordable, even if profit margins are slimmer.
A housing expert with the Texas A&M Real Estate Research Center says it makes sense that projects like this are emerging as home prices continue to outpace wages.
That gap has left many single-income households stuck renting, sometimes indefinitely. Supply is also an ongoing problem.
"We've not built housing at the rate that we should have for many, many years," the expert said. "We need more diversity of housing."
The builder says he started the project after realizing little hope exists for the gap to close anytime soon.
Though tiny homes cannot solve the housing crisis alone, he believes they give more single-family households a chance.
"I can only do a small piece. But hopefully it'll spur somebody on to maybe do the same thing," he said.

AZLE, Texas, Feb. 24, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- What are the steps to build a custom home? That question is clearly answered in a HelloNation article featuring insights from Custom Home Expert Meriem Sorrells of Sorrells Custom Homes in Azle, TX. The article outlines the seven key stages of custom home construction in Tarrant and Parker Counties, explaining how each phase helps homeowners stay organized, manage costs, and complete their projects successfully.
The article begins by emphasizing that every custom home project follows a logical order that keeps planning and construction predictable. Understanding the process from zoning to the final inspection helps reduce risk and prevent delays. Builders in North Texas rely on this clear structure because it aligns with local county requirements and matches how real-world construction unfolds in the region.
The first step, according to Sorrells, is confirming zoning and utilities. Zoning rules define what can be built on a property and how large the structure can be. Utility availability determines how to connect water, power, and wastewater services. Many owners discover early on that electrical service must be extended or that a septic system is needed. Knowing these details in advance allows every other stage of the build to move forward without unnecessary changes. This step also shows how zoning affects custom home construction and helps owners plan correctly from the start.
The second step is choosing a qualified local builder. Building on your own lot requires coordination among professionals who understand soil conditions, inspection procedures, and construction timelines in Tarrant and Parker Counties. Sorrells explains that a builder with regional experience brings insight into permitting schedules, county standards, and typical building challenges. This guidance ensures smoother decision-making on design, budget, and timing.
The third step involves finalizing the floor plans. Homeowners work with designers or architects to shape layouts that fit their needs. This phase includes selecting room dimensions, door and window placements, and other structural elements. The article notes that this is the ideal time to make adjustments, since no permits have been filed and construction has not yet begun. Thoughtful planning here helps prevent expensive revisions later and keeps the overall schedule intact.
The fourth step is securing financing. Custom home loans differ from traditional mortgages because they are based on the projected value of a completed home rather than an existing one. Lenders require detailed budgets, approved plans, and builder information before releasing funds. Sorrells highlights that understanding how draws work and what documentation lenders expect helps owners maintain momentum once construction begins. Clear financial preparation ensures that funding keeps pace with progress.
The fifth step is obtaining permits. Each county and city in North Texas has specific rules, and missing information can delay approval. The article explains how permits work for custom homes in North Texas by detailing common requirements such as building, electrical, mechanical, septic, and access approvals. Submitting a complete set of plans speeds the process and ensures compliance. Permits protect homeowners by verifying that their property meets safety and performance standards before and during construction.
Once permits are in hand, the sixth step begins with breaking ground. This is when the project moves from planning to action. Crews clear the site, pour the foundation, and start framing. As the home takes shape, owners see how the structure reflects their plans. Construction then continues through roofing, insulation, mechanical systems, drywall, and finishing details. This phase demonstrates what a builder does during the construction process, as multiple trades must coordinate to stay on schedule and ensure consistent quality.
The seventh and final step is completing inspections and preparing the home for move-in. Each county inspects different parts of the build to confirm that plumbing, electrical systems, framing, and overall safety meet code requirements. After the home passes inspection, the builder conducts a final walkthrough with the owner to confirm that finishes, fixtures, and design choices match the approved plans. This final review ensures that the project closes with satisfaction and accountability.
The article explains that understanding the process for building on your lot is one of the best ways to reduce stress and stay on budget. Following a defined sequence keeps everyone aligned and avoids the confusion that can occur when steps are skipped or rushed. A steady pace from start to finish allows for better coordination, fewer delays, and a more predictable outcome.
Sorrells also stresses the importance of communication throughout the project. Every stage introduces questions about design choices, schedules, and cost updates. Owners who stay engaged with their builder have fewer surprises and greater confidence in the progress. The seven-step system is designed to simplify the process rather than complicate it, giving first-time homebuilders a clear roadmap to follow.
In summary, the article shows that a well-organized process turns what can seem like an overwhelming project into a manageable series of decisions. From zoning and financing to construction and inspections, each step has a purpose that protects both time and investment. Homeowners who understand this framework from the beginning are better prepared to enjoy the experience of creating their dream home.
In conclusion, The 7-Step Process to Building a Custom Home in Tarrant & Parker Counties features insights from Meriem Sorrells, Custom Home Expert of Azle, TX, in HelloNation.
