If your parents are anything like ours, they've poured their hearts into creating a better life for you and their community. Now that they're in their golden years, they deserve to relax and savor the fruits of their labor.
However, as our loved ones age, the need for extra support around the home becomes evident, whether it's preparing meals or managing medications. When they can no longer care for themselves as they once did, worries about their safety and well-being arise. It's natural to think about their quality of life and how you can give back to them while balancing your own responsibilities.
Most seniors -94%, according to Forbes- prefer to remain in their homes as they age. If the senior in your life wants to stay at home as they get older, what's the best way to make that happen? For many families, non-medical home care offers a compassionate and affordable solution. In-home care is quickly becoming the first choice for older seniors because it supports your family while allowing your loved one to age gracefully in the familiar, safe surroundings they're used to.
If you're committed to keeping your mom, dad, or senior relative safe and happy at home, working with a home care agency might be the best way to achieve that goal.
When it comes to maintaining good senior health, early intervention is often key. Unfortunately, many adults with senior parents are stretched too thin to notice signs that their mom or dad needs help around the house. Wondering whether you really need to consider home care for you, your parents, or your loved ones? Keep these warning signs in mind.
As men and women get older, it's perfectly natural for them to have some aspects of mental decline. Age-related memory loss doesn't affect everyone, but when it involves your loved one, it can be a lot to digest. When forgetfulness begins to impact your parents' quality of life, it's time to take action.
Commonly referred to as mild cognitive impairment (MCI), this forgetfulness often arises from reduced blood flow to the brain, a phenomenon frequently associated with aging. Other contributing factors can include typical neural lapses and a decline in hippocampal function, which is a crucial area of the brain responsible for memory. These changes can lead to frustrating side effects, such as
Seniors showing any of these signs can greatly benefit from non-medical home care providers who can help them with their daily tasks. This support can include reminding them of scheduled appointments, preparing meals, light housekeeping, and assisting with reading and other essential activities. Professional caregivers can also incorporate healthy memory practices into your loved one's daily routine. Strategies may include social interaction, engaging in simple strategy games, maintaining a nutritious diet, and participating in light exercises like slow walks around the block.
As your parents or senior loved ones get older, they often have trouble completing dayto-day tasks that are fundamental to living a normal life. There are several activities of daily living, or ADLs, that senior citizens struggle with and include
A reliable caregiver from a trusted senior care agency in Denton, TX, can help make daily life much easier for your elder relative. If they have trouble putting on or tying their shoes, your caregiver is there to help them choose their shoes and put them on correctly.
If your senior citizen isn't eating healthy food, your caregiver can help create a nutritious meal plan and assist them in preparing the food they need for energy and daily activities. When searching for a home care agency, make sure they offer tailored care plans that address your loved one's needs, not someone who has similar issues.
If you notice that your loved one can't keep themselves clean and groomed, it could be a sign that their health is on the decline. It could also be a red flag that your senior may be experiencing the early stages of dementia. Other signs include:
The best non-medical caregivers are trained to attend to your loved one's needs and quality of life as they move through the Functional Assessment Staging test of Alzheimer's Disease, also known as the FAST Scale. If you believe your parent or relative might be in the early stages of dementia, it's absolutely critical to work with a home care business like ameriCARE that specializes in dementia care.
There's a reason why almost 12 million people in the United States rely on some type of non-medical home care. Here are just a few of the most effective services that help older adults stay happy, healthy, and active as they age.
If you notice that the senior in your life can't or won't maintain their hygiene and health, hiring an experienced caregiver can help. They'll assist with daily tasks like:

Great in-home caregivers support your loved one's independence while providing the necessary assistance to ensure their safety and well-being. Look for a company that offers a robust range of senior care services and provides custom care plans that meet your senior's unique needs.
Inquire about the agency's caregiver recruitment process, including background checks, screening procedures, and ongoing training.

DENTON, Texas — A new affordable housing development is officially underway in Denton.
The NRP Group and the Denton Housing Authority held a groundbreaking Thursday on Arbor Ranch, a 297-unit community designed to expand access to affordable housing for working families.
The development will offer homes for households earning between 30% and 70% of the Area Median Income, addressing demand for attainable housing as Denton continues to grow.
“As Denton continues to experience rapid growth, ensuring that we have diverse and attainable housing options at a range of income levels is critical to sustaining our economic momentum,” said Sherri McDade, CEO of the Denton Housing Authority.
The NRP Group described Arbor Ranch as the company's most modern “Class-A affordable product to date,” emphasizing its proximity to schools, jobs and major transit corridors.
Located at 2820 Roselawn Drive, just off Interstate 35, the property sits within walking distance of Denia Park, its recreation center, and the newly rebuilt Borman Elementary School. Downtown Denton, the University of North Texas, and Texas Woman’s University are a short drive away.
Spread across 22 acres, Arbor Ranch will feature nine three-story buildings with a mix of one- to four-bedroom apartments. Amenities will include an outdoor pool, playground, barbecue and picnic areas, a children’s activity room and a community lounge. Residents will also have access to on-site services such as after-school programs and community support initiatives.
The NRP Group continues to expand its footprint across North Texas, having developed nearly 7,000 units across more than 30 properties in the DFW metroplex. The company recently opened Thrive on Crawford, another affordable housing community that debuted earlier this year.
Construction on Arbor Ranch is now underway, with the first units expected to be available in early 2027.

Basel, February 25, 2026 – Novartis, a leading global innovative medicines company, today announced plans to establish a new 46,000-square-foot radioligand therapy (RLT) manufacturing site in Denton, Texas. This purpose-built RLT site will be the company’s fifth in the US and first manufacturing facility in Texas, and marks further progress in the company’s $23 billion US investment.
The Denton site is expected to create new Novartis jobs in bioengineering, advanced manufacturing, quality and operations, supporting economic growth in Denton and surrounding communities. Construction is scheduled to begin this year, with the site expected to become fully operational in 2028.
“RLT has the potential to revolutionize cancer care,” said Vas Narasimhan, CEO of Novartis. “The addition of our fifth RLT manufacturing site in the US strengthens our ability to meet growing demand, building the capabilities needed to deliver these next-generation treatments with the speed and precision they require.”
“Texas is a leading biotech hub and home to groundbreaking advancements in medicine,” said Governor Greg Abbott. “This significant investment by Novartis in Denton will establish their first manufacturing facility in Texas for cancer therapies and create good-paying jobs in bioengineering, advanced manufacturing, and more. Working together with innovative global leaders, we will continue to strengthen critical supply chains to help speed next-generation treatments to patients across Texas and the US.”
The Texas site will join a comprehensive Novartis RLT manufacturing network, with existing US sites in New Jersey, Indiana and California and a recently announced site to be constructed in Florida — providing unmatched RLT capacity from coast to coast. The manufacturing network has a longstanding record of enabling >99% of doses to be administered on the planned day. Each dose of RLT is custom-made and time-sensitive, making proximity to patients and treatment centers critical.
Novartis and radioligand therapy (RLT)Novartis is reimagining cancer care with RLT for patients with advanced cancers. By harnessing the power of targeted radiation and applying it to advanced cancers, RLT is designed to deliver treatment directly to target cells anywhere in the body.
Novartis is actively investigating the application of RLTs across cancer types and settings, with one of the deepest and most advanced pipelines in the industry, with trials in prostate cancer, breast, colon, lung, brain, pancreatic and other cancers. Novartis has established global expertise, with specialized supply chain and manufacturing capabilities across its network of RLT production sites around the world.

DENTON, Texas — Just about anyone who attended the University of North Texas over the past 15 years has eaten at Crooked Crust at least a few times -- some others practically lived off of its pizza.
With its close proximity along Fry Street to the campus and its dorms, many students could easily hop to the pizza shop in between classes for a couple big slices. And, at least in the early 2010s, for only about $6, plus a drink.
But as the years have gone by, the cost of those slices has had to go up. And due to these rising costs, and dropping sales, the pizza shop announced it officially closed its doors on Friday.
"Rising food, labor, and operating costs combined with lower sales volume has made it impossible to continue in a responsible way," Crooked Crust wrote on its website. "We’re choosing to close with dignity rather than compromise quality or our people. We’re deeply grateful to everyone who supported us over the years—guests, vendors, and especially our staff."
This is just the latest in changes along Fry Street, which has seen a number of bars and restaurants shut its doors in recent years. The strip next to UNT has been a popular spot for students to grab a drink or some food on weekends and weeknights.
A GoFundMe has been started by the employees at Crooked Crust who have found themselves out of a job to help them get by as they look for new work. So far, more than $300 has been raised toward its $3,000 goal.
"Our team—made up of college students and young adults—worked hard to keep the doors open, even as we faced challenges behind the scenes," the GoFundMe states. "Unfortunately, the owner was often absent and negligent, leaving us with little support or communication about the future of the restaurant."
Anyone who wishes to donate to the GoFundMe can do so here.
