A trip to your local tax office is typically not exciting. Somehow, though you're there in the middle of the workday, there's a long line and the lights are too bright. Nothing new. But for one Texan, a recent visit turned into more than just a dreaded errand.
Burleson resident Belina Rosales ventured out to a Johnson County location at 247 Elk Drive, roughly 18 miles south of Fort Worth, to renew her registration sticker. That Friday, March 13 (yes, really), she did a double-take after spotting a "Zombie Attack" pamphlet displayed on the wall.
"I even looked around to see if I was being pranked," Rosales told MySA.
Several of the bright yellow brochures were stacked near other situational procedures, like what to do if someone is trying to evict you. Rosales said she took out her phone and started recording.
"Then I hear a lady saying ‘zombies.' I looked at her and said 'O.M.G., the pamphlet, right?'"
The two proceeded to joke about what their plans would be if it were to happen. Would they be as brave as Joel and Ellie in The Last of Us, or settle down in a countryside house and wait it out like in The Walking Dead? While comedic, the brochure claims to provide actionable tips people can heed to "prepare."
"In such a scenario, zombies would take over entire neighborhoods, roaming city streets, eating anything living that got in their way," the pamphlet states, according to the video taken by Rosales. "You may laugh now, but when it happens, you'll be happy you read this, and hey, maybe you'll even learn a thing or two about how to prepare for a real emergency."
Proceeding paragraphs mention reality-based disasters such as hurricanes and pandemics. It notes that "before zombies" or other situations like these "happen," residents should have an emergency kit, water, food, and other items in their house. Folks would need these to get them through the first few days before they "can locate a zombie-free refugee camp," a section claims.
It adds that if there is a natural disaster, it will "buy you some time until you are able to make your way to an evacuation shelter or utility lines are restored." There's even a convenient checklist on the middle page.
Likely, the pamphlet provider, listed as Texas Constable Adam S. Crawford, is using the brochure as a creative way to help citizens prepare for severe weather or epidemic events. MySA reached out to the tax office and constable for comment, but did not immediately hear back in time for publication.
Toward the end, the packet urges people to get with their families and create an emergency plan. According to the pamphlet, this includes where you would go and who you should call "if zombies started appearing outside your doorstep."
It concludes that Texans should identify which emergencies are possible in their area.
"Besides a Zombie apocalypse, this may include floods, tornadoes, or earthquakes," it states. "If you are unsure, contact your local Red Cross chapter for more information."
Rosales didn't speak to the employees about the bizarre occurrence, she says. She later shared the clip on TikTok, garnering questions and comments from thousands of users.
"There was no employee to talk to. In fact, other than the office I was at to do my registration sticker, there wasn’t any employee to be seen," she said. "Before I left, I passed the lady again and said to her, ‘Remember if the zombies come, and we run into each other, we are friendly.' We both laughed and went about our day."

BURLESON, Texas — A pair of massive master-planned communities is set to reshape the western edge of Burleson, bringing thousands of new residents, commercial development, and more than a billion dollars in projected investment to the fast-growing Fort Worth suburb.
The developments — Chisholm Summit and Tallgrass — together plan to deliver approximately 7,000 new homes and significant retail and commercial space along the Chisholm Trail Parkway corridor.
City officials say the growth is inevitable, but they're determined to manage it on their terms.
"Being a suburb of Fort Worth, there's no stopping it," said Alex Philips, Burleson's economic development director. "We're going to continue to grow. We have to be smart. We have to be strategic. And we have to not lose who we are as a community."
RA Development's Chisholm Summit is already underway, with dirt moving and homes expected as early as 2027. The project is projected to add 100 to 200 homes to Burleson annually for the next 15 to 20 years, ultimately accommodating approximately 3,066 residential units at buildout.
The development spans the land surrounding Chisholm Parkway and will be Burleson's first master-planned community. It will feature 28 acres of commercial space, a 106-acre professional office park and medical district called Hooper Business Park, and Chisholm Square — a community "downtown" node modeled after the city's existing Old Town district.
More than 100 acres will be dedicated parkland, including an equestrian center, a community park, pocket parks and over ten miles of interconnected trails weaving through the development. Peaceful ponds for fishing and horseback riding trails are also planned.
Housing options will range from townhomes to estate lots, with prices starting in the $290,000s and reaching $1 million. Homes will fall within the Joshua Independent School District. Water will be provided by the Johnson County Special Utility District, sewer by the City of Burleson, and electric by United Cooperative, according to the City of Burleson.
The developer is also funding infrastructure improvements, including piping to connect to the main water supply and the construction of a new water tower. Philips said water capacity is a primary consideration before any ground is broken.
"How do we serve those people the way we're serving our residents today?" Philips said.
The development will also improve direct roadway access to Chisholm Trail Parkway, which city officials say will enhance emergency response times for Burleson's western residents.
Tallgrass, a 621-acre development at the interchange of Chisholm Trail Parkway and FM 1902, is still a couple of years out but is already deep in planning. The project represents more than $1 billion in investment and is expected to deliver approximately 4,000 residential units alongside 1 million square feet of commercial, retail and employment space, according to Philips.
Anchored by the motto "Where Roots Run Deep," Tallgrass is designed as a multi-generational, mixed-use live-work-play community. Plans include a future elementary school, a signature town center, 90 acres of parks and open space, and five miles of trails set against a restored tallgrass prairie landscape.
The development sits at the heart of two significant transportation improvements: a planned four-lane expansion of the Chisholm Trail Parkway and the widening of FM 1902 to a four-lane divided roadway, according to the City of Burleson.
For longtime Burleson businesses, the changes are already visible — and the feelings are mixed.
Jamie Collier, general manager of Old Texas Brewing Company, a family-owned restaurant that has anchored the community for 13 years, says she has watched Burleson's growth from the restaurant's patio tables.
"It's a city that's growing rapidly, but we still have that small town feel," Collier said.
She hopes that feeling endures — and believes the growth could ultimately benefit local businesses like hers.
"The mom and pops that are here need a new influx of people," she said. "Growth is always hard for a smaller community, but it's also a necessary evil to have everyone succeed."
